Learning to Fully Love Yourself

Jeshua Ben Joseph (from *The Way of the Heart*) teaches that self-love is not about striving to be perfect, but about uncovering the love that is already present within us. To love yourself fully is to remember your innocence, to release judgment, and to rest in the awareness that you are already whole.

1. Core Principles of Self-Love

  • Acceptance of all feelings — No part of your experience is wrong. Loving yourself means embracing fear, shame, joy, and hope equally.
  • Forgiveness as freedom — Forgive not because you did wrong, but because you misperceived your innocence. Forgiveness dissolves barriers to love.
  • Union with Presence — In stillness, you rediscover that you are not the ‘small self,’ but an extension of Divine Love itself.

2. Best Practices to Deepen Self-Love

  1. Gentle Awareness — Sit quietly, place a hand on your heart, and simply breathe with yourself. Whisper: ‘I am safe to be with myself.’
  2. Daily Allowance — When judgment arises, pause and say: ‘This too is welcome. I allow this feeling to pass through me.’
  3. Mirror Practice — Look into your eyes each morning and say: ‘I forgive you. I love you. I will not abandon you.’
  4. Loving Self-Talk Journaling — Each night, write down one phrase of encouragement you would say to a beloved child or friend—and then say it to yourself.

3. Self-Talk Phrases Inspired by Joshua’s Teachings

  • I am already loved as I am.
  • I am not my mistakes, I am the love that learns through them.
  • I forgive myself for forgetting my worth.
  • I welcome all of me into the arms of Love.
  • I am created in Love, and Love never fails me.
  • I choose to rest in gentleness.
  • There is nothing I need to earn; I already am the beloved.

4. Bringing This Into Daily Life

  • During stress — Pause and breathe the phrase ‘I am safe, I am held.’
  • When self-criticism appears — Place your hand on your heart and softly say ‘Beloved, I hear you. I will not abandon you.’
  • In gratitude — Before bed, thank your body and mind: ‘Thank you for carrying me through this day. I love you.’

5. Guided Self-Love Practice Script

Here is a script you can use for a daily guided meditation. Read it slowly, or record it with a gentle voice:

Find a quiet space and sit comfortably. Close your eyes and bring one hand to your heart.

Take a slow, deep breath in… and out.

Whisper to yourself: ‘I am safe to be with myself.’

As you breathe, repeat softly: ‘I am already loved as I am.’

Notice any feelings that arise. Welcome them by saying: ‘This too is welcome. I allow this to pass through me.’

If self-criticism appears, place both hands gently over your heart and affirm: ‘Beloved, I hear you. I will not abandon you.’

Stay with this practice for 5–10 minutes, letting love fill your awareness. Close by saying: ‘Thank you for carrying me through this day. I love you.’
